Patrol Rifle Instructor: $600

Course Designer: Greg Hamilton
This class will give you the skills and information necessary to teach Patrol Rifle usage to your officers. At the end of this course the instructor will be able to more effectively present material to students and will be able to coach the individual shooter to a higher standard. Instructors will be able to identify errors not seen before and will be able to correct those errors quickly and effectively.

In addition to the topics below, this course will cover firearms safety as it pertains to rifles and lethal encounters. We will define the role of the patrol rifle in Law Enforcement, and discuss terminology, requirements and advantages of the rifle, rifle types and selection, carry systems, accessories, modifications, sights, shotguns vs. rifles, and realistic ranges of usage. Also covered will be rifle ballistics, and weapons retention.

Curriculum:

  • Marksmanship fundamentals: stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger press
  • Carry techniques, ready positions, mounting of the rifle from the ready and carry/slung positions
  • Stoppage drills, speed and tactical reloading
  • Rapid engagement of single and multiple opponents
  • Firing positions: primary, secondary, and special positions
  • Deliberate and dynamic movement, shooting while moving
  • Proper utilization of cover and concealment

Equipment Requirements

Semi-automatic, magazine-fed, iron-sighted rifle with sling (lowpowered optics okay); 1200 rounds of jacketed ammunition, minimum (no steel core ammunition); 3 magazines, minimum; 100 rounds pistol ammunition; hearing and eye protection; knee and elbow pads; duty gear to include flashlight; lunch and drinks for each day; clothing appropriate for weather.
