They have all received extensive instructor development training from our own master trainer, Greg Hamilton, in addition to high level training from numerous national academies. Greg (and John Holschen) are the only two-time winners in the history of the National Tactical Invitational and have been recognized as "Master Tacticians" and "Master Trainers" by the American Tactical Shooting Association. Greg M. Hamilton, Chief InstructorGreg Hamilton is the Founder and Chief Instructor for InSights. He is internationally recognized as one of the best firearms and tactics instructors in the world. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army Rangers and Special Forces, and is certified by the Army as a Close Quarters Combat Instructor and Anti-Terrorism Instructor. He is certified by the National Law Enforcement Training Center as a Handgun Retention Instructor, and by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) as a Firearms Instructor. Greg has been named a "Master Instructor" and "Master Tactician" by the American Tactical Shooters Association. He has attended and/or been an instructor at Gunsite Training Center, Mid-South Institute of Self-Defense Shooting, Defense Training International, American Pistol Institute, Lethal Force Institute, Chapman Academy, National Law Enforcement Training Center, H&K's International Training Division, ITC/Thunder Ranch, and Yavapai Firearms Academy. Greg is a two-time National Champion and has placed in the top five at the National Tactical Invitational six years in a row. More importantly, he has trained more than half a dozen people to accomplish similar results. Greg has made InSights courses nationally known for their incredible attention to detail and for the level of performance of their graduating students. |
Keven KerkamKeven Kerkam has been with InSights from the beginning, and is a graduate of all their firearm and tactical courses. He is certified by the WSCJTC as a Firearms Instructor. He has graduated from multiple courses from Gunsite, DTI, International Training Consultants, LFI, Yavapai Firearms Academy, and Jim Cirrilo's Shooting Course. Keven is an instructor for Handgun, Rifle, and Shotgun, and a coach for Tactics. |
Mike Shertz, M.D.Mike Shertz, M.D. has attended all InSights courses and multiple courses from DTI, Gunsite. He is a qualified Special Forces Medic and is certified by the U.S. Army as a Combatives Instructor. He is a member of the International Wound Ballistics Association and the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers. Mike has finished in fifth place or higher in nearly every NTI since 1997. Mike is an instructor for Handgun, Rifle, Unarmed, Knife, and Tactical Emergency Medicine. He is a coach for Shotgun, Tactics, Handgun Retention, and Close Quarters. Mike serves as the Chief Medical Officer and leads a team of Tactical Medics for the Washington County, Oregon, SWAT team. |
Dave HandaDave Handa is an instructor for Basic Handgun and Glock Maintenance and a coach for Handgun, Rifle, and Tactics. He is certified by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission as a Firearms Instructor, he is an NRA Pistol Instructor and is a factory-certified Glock Armorer. He has graduated from multiple courses at InSights, Gunsite, DTI, LFI and International Training Inc. |
Tracy RobertsTracy Roberts is an instructor for InSights Basic and General Defensive Handgun courses and is a coach for higher level handgun, shotgun, rifle, and all combatives courses. He is certified as a firearms instructor by the WSCJTC and has worked as a climbing guide on Mt. Rainier for over 20 years. Tracy has completed courses with Gunsite, DTI, LFI, 10-8 Consulting, and Viking Tactics, and served as an Infantry Platoon Leader in Vietnam. |
Benjamin OlmstedBenjamin Olmsted is retired patrolman with a Police Department in Washington, a member of the SWAT team, and a certified Defensive Tactics Instructor. He is a former Military Police Officer and Security Force Company Platoon Sergeant with the USMC. Benjamin is a graduate of the USMC Close Quarter Battle school, Assault Breacher school, and Designated Marksman school. He is also a graduate of the US Army Special Response Team school, Physical Security course, and the L.A.S.O. SWAT school. Ben has taken courses at InSights, MISS, and the Bill Rogers School. He is a firearms, tactics, and SWAT instructor for InSights. |
Nick CollinsNick is an instructor for our handgun, rifle, and combatives courses. He has served as an Infantryman for more than 15 years in the US Army with over 8 years as a Sniper, Sniper Team Leader, and Sniper Squad Leader. He has served two combat tours in Iraq where he led dismounted patrols, conducted sniper operations, served on a personal security detail, performed convoy escort missions, and was a quick reaction force squad leader for Task Force Baghdad. Nick has over 10 years instructor experience teaching military pre-deployment, firearms, and combatives classes. His medical background includes certifications as an Emergency Medical Technician, Wilderness EMT, Coast Guard Medical Person in Charge, CPR for Professional Rescuer, Army Combat Lifesaver, and courses in Tactical First Aid. Nick is an experienced security driver and has trained in surveillance detection, evasive and protective driving, off road driving and recovery, and personal security detail driving at BSR, International Training Inc., and Tactical Explosive Entry School. |
Alan HinesAlan Hines has been an InSights instructor since 2005. He teaches Basic Handgun, Basic Long Gun, Utah CFP, Handgun Safety & Marksmanship, Glock Maintenance, and coaches most other InSights classes. He has completed the InSights firearms, combatives, and tactics curriculum, and has been a practitioner at the National Tactical Invitational. He is certified by the WSCJTC as a Firearms Instructor, by the NRA as a Pistol Instructor, by Glock as an Armorer, and by Utah as a Concealed Firearms Permit Instructor. Alan is also a document guy and assists InSights with their print materials. |
Ray PorthenRay Porthen is a certified firearms instructor by the Washington State Criminal Training Commission. He is also certified through Remote Medical International as a Wilderness First Responder. He has had the privilege of training with a variety of renowned companies and instructors, including Pat McNamara of TMACS INC, Firearms Academy of Seattle, Magpul, 10-8 Performance, Crisis Medicine, as well as completing several courses through InSights Training Center. Ray is now an instructor for our handgun and rifle courses as well as a coach for our combatives and tactics courses. |
Jamin KortegardJamin Kortegard is a primary instructor for Basic Handgun, and is an assistant instructor and coach for our private sector combatives, firearms, and tactics courses. Jamin is certified as a Firearms Instructor by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commision and as a Pistol Instructor by the National Rifle Association. He has trained extensively with InSights since 2003. |
