Patrol Rifle OperatorThe intent of the course is to teach the officer individual tactics and the use of the rifle in close range, high speed, defensive scenarios. The officer will learn rapid assumption of various shooting positions to maximize the use of cover and concealment, and to provide for a more stable firing platform.Subjects covered: Firearms safety as it pertains to rifles and lethal encounters. Defining the role of the patrol rifle in Law Enforcement, terminology, requirements/advantages of the rifle, rifle types and selection, carry systems, vehicle mounts, accessories, modifications, sights, shotguns vs. rifles, realistic ranges, prevention of unintentional discharges in training and conflicts, conditions of carry, carry techniques, ready positions, mounting of the rifle from the ready and carry/slung positions. Marksmanship fundamentals: stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger press. Speed and tactical reloading, malfunction drills, and rapid engagement of single and multiple opponents. Firing positions: primary positions, secondary positions, and special positions. Pivoting and traversing. Individual tactics, tactical safety, movement, channelization, utilization of distance, tactical management of danger areas such as doorways, corners, stairwells, etc. Proper utilization of cover and concealment will be stressed throughout the course as will movement techniques, individual and two person team tactics, and target acquisition. Also covered will be rifle ballistics, accessories, and weapons retention. |
